Description

  • We usually recite this psalm before Baruch Sheamar and it is good to recite it in the form of a menorah, and this is considered as if we lit the menorah in the Bet Hamikdash, and it is a segula for a successful day. The number of verses corresponds to the number of branches of the menorah and the number of words to the components of the menorah, c -a -d 49. The Hida and others even recommend reading it on a parchment.
  • The Hida reports that this psalm was inscribed on a plate of gold carried by King David on his shield when he went to war, and that David pondered the deep meaning of this psalm and won his wars.
  • Some works recommend its reading even outside of the morning prayer.
  • Some write it on a parchment and place it on the inner-facing door of the Holy Ark, as a segula to protect the community. The Ari zal says that recitation protects from plague and from bad decrees
